How to Discover your Guardian Angel

Who Is My Guardian Angel

As long as I can remember I have had my guardian angel by my side guiding me through the lessons in my life.

Before I begin, I would like to give you a quick version of my angel story (or click here to skip ahead).

I’ve been blessed by having a life long relationship with my Guardian Angel. Before I was born he came to my mother in the form of a visitation. The nine months I spent in my mother’s womb were not pleasant for either of us! She developed severe high blood pressure and I took the liberty of pushing her nerves –literally! Every now and then I’d give a push on her lower back and her legs would give out. With all of my moving around, I managed to get the umbilical wrapped around my neck. No one knew I had done this until the day of my birth. And this is where my Guardian Angel comes in. Before all of these issues came about, my angel gave my mother a message.

The night of the visitation, my mother was lying in bed. She began to hear the faint sound of fluttering in the room. This sound became louder and she had the strong sense of a presence around her. Then she felt this overwhelming feeling of peace. It was like a warm rush of water through her body and with it came a message about me. The message was that everything was going to be all right.

The day of my birth was planned. With all of my mother’s symptoms, they decided to induce labor. As I was being born I suddenly went into fetal distress as the cord tightened around my neck and I wasn’t getting enough oxygen. The doctor who performed my birth was young, alert and was current with modern technology. He knew how to handle this emergency situation. This doctor would not have been my doctor hadn’t my mother’s original obstetrician retired. He was an old man and a traditionalist in every sense of the word. I’m here today because the young doctor was ready for me. Everything happened as it was supposed to and my angel gave my mother the message that let her know we were going to be okay.

As a child, my angel became a good friend. We’d play together when I had no one around to play with other than him. I named him Cotty. My parents would ask who I was talking to and I’d say, “Cotty” as if this was a completely normal occurrence. As I grew up and entered my teen years, Cotty was there, but I wasn’t there. I was busy being a teenager. It wasn’t until I was in my late teen years that Cotty would reach for me again.

Through the many years since, I have learned how to reconnect and strengthen that bond. And with Cotty’s help I’d like to share with you some of the ways you too can discover your angel!

Discover Your Guardian Angel
First, it is important to remember we all have angels around us!

I know a lot of us feel as if we are alone, but in fact we are never alone. This feeling of loneliness isn’t because we have been abandoned by God or the angels, but because we forget to reach out to the unseen.

Your guardian angel is always around you. This is something you should ALWAYS remember!

If you want to know your guardian angel, it is as simple as asking. Ask for a sign. Ask him/her to comfort you. Ask for love. Ask for a message. The simple thing to remember here is to ASK. Angels always respond.

This is important to remember though: An angel can respond in many ways.

It can be:

  • A soft subtle feeling of comfort wrapping around you.
  • A sign that stands out to you. Maybe, you asked for validation and a street light turns on right when you pass under it, or a hawk swoops very low over your head. Whatever the sign, it will be personal to you.
  • Someone entering your life that you don’t know and they touch you in an amazing way, then leave as quickly as they came.
  • Words from a loved one who felt a strong desire to tell you something meaningful.
  • Something you read stands out. Maybe you see the name Michael everywhere. Or maybe, you read a poem or verse that moves the Spirit in you.
  • Something you write, but yet the words are meant for you. And those words touch you deeply.

Remember, angels love us! They love us from the tops of our heads to the tips of our toes. They speak to us in a perfect way. They know how we will respond and are gentle in their approach to communicating what we NEED to hear.

It is a special bond we share with the messengers of God. To reinforce this bond, I suggest speaking to your guardian angel every day. Even if you haven’t formed an intimate relationship with your guardian angel, remember he/she has an intimate relationship with you always! And you do know your guardian angel even if you think you don’t. You always have. You knew your guardian angel before you were born. You knew your angel in the womb. And you knew your guardian angel as a child. You just don’t remember. This journey toward finding your angel is about remembering who your guardian angel is to you!

Here are some tips and things to remember when rediscovering your guardian angel!

  • Try saying hello! Introduce yourself and quietly wait for a name to appear in your mind. Don’t force it. Maybe it will take a few days of introducing yourself and quieting your mind, but a name will come! When you hear this name it is your guardian angel introducing him/herself to you.
  • Angels are actually genderless and ageless, but they take on the gender that feels most comfortable to you. So you may be a woman with a male angel or a man with a female angel. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that this angel is here for you! Let him be what is right for you! Again don’t force it.
  • Once you have a name, trust your guardian angel. Call on him if you need ANYTHING! Maybe you need strength or understanding. Maybe you don’t feel safe in a situation and need help getting through it or away from it, call on your guardian angel. He is there all the time. It’s why he is there to help you.
  • Reinforce the relationship by thinking of your guardian angel through out the day. Maybe while you are out shopping or at work just say hello! Let your guardian angel know “you know” she is around.
  • Remember, an angel is not to be worshipped. They serve God and us humans. Love them in the Spirit of Truth: They love you. Just love them back!
  • Try visualizing your guardian angel. Think of your guardian angel and visualize your guardian angel standing near you. Try to feel where she is standing and visualize it in your mind

Over time as you reaffirm your relationship with your guardian angel your bond together will grow. I can literally feel my angel swirling around me when I do angel readings. Or when I need my angel I feel him around. He is a powerful presence in my life.

It’s also important to know that we can have more than one guardian angel. I discovered I have more than one angel! Cotty has introduced me to another angel named Theodore, or Theo for short. He is stronger in his voice, so he helps get important messages through. With that said, don’t be surprised if you discover you have more than one angel around you!

Also, the archangels can make an appearance. Most times your guardian angels will make you aware that you have special help around!

So please take the time to get to know your angels because…

It isn’t a matter of discovering your angels! We are all on a journey to REDISCOVER our angels!
